The Magic Toy Shop - La Boutique Fantasque

This is my only surviving record from the early 60s. I was four in 1960. It is one of the many story records of that era incorporating classical music. This is a story of how the dolls come alive in a toyshop in Monte Carlo. When my father took me to Monte Carlo in the 1960s, I asked him where the magic Toyshop was.

Compsed by Rosini, arranged by Rosenthal. Starring Jimmy Kingsbury who tells the story of the magic dolls in the Magic Toyshop. Played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Postman Pat

I was delighted when I was successful in bidding for this Postman Pat CD at ebay.

Whereas Postman Pat is not vintage music, it has got to become a classic. This CD by Ken Barrie is absolutely excellent.

Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his black and white cat,
Early in the morning,
Just as day is dawning,
He picks up all the post bags in his van.

Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his black and white cat,
All the birds are singing,
And the day is just beginning,
Pat feels he's a really happy man.

Everybody knows, his bright red van,
All his friends will smile as he waves to greet them,
Maybe,
You can never be sure,
They'll be knock,
Ring,
Letters through your door,
Hay hay,
Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his black and white cat,
All the birds are singing,
And the day is just beginning,
Pat feels he's a really happy man,
Pat feels he's a really happy man,
Pat feels he's a really happy man.

Pinky & Perky
What do Pinky & Perky, Tingha & Tucker, The Smurfs, and the Chipmunks have in common?

Answer: They are all played at double speed. I had great fun as a child converting records into Pinky & Perky records by playing 45s at 78 RPM.

Perhaps the best know Pinky & Perky records are the theme tunes: "What have we got? What have we got? We've got music" and "We belong together". A number of songs appear on the Pinky & Perky video.

If anyone has MP3s of the above, I should love to receive copies.

Pinky and Perky did opera ("The Drinking Song"), wartime music ("We've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts") and pop music "(Who Wears Short Shorts?"). These all appear on the Pinky & Perky monochrome video.

My son is 6 years old. When his friends visit after school, I always have to hide the Pinky & Perky tape since they all go straight for it. could it be that children today are starved of children's music?

Here are some Pinky & Perky sites to visit:

Excellent history pages here.

Tuneful piglet twins, Pinky and Perky represent their own special brand of nostalgic memories since their first TV appearance in the late 1950's.  The BBC gave them their own series from 1964 that propelled them into "superstar status" on a global scale!
